April 16, 2014 - Midweek Group - Individual

Midweek Group Chill'in
Spring has sprung! 23 members were treated to a beautiful day on our golf course. By tournament day, April 16th, nine or ten days had elapsed since the greens were aerated and sanded so conditions were pretty good. Good enough, in fact, for 11 of the 23 players to score in the mid to high 60's, net.

Eleven men in the A Group were led by Greg Fletcher (75, net 65). There were 4 tied for second low net at 66: Dahl, Kipp, Haack and Coombs. Three of these were awarded prizes based on a card match of holes 10-12: Myron Dahl, 2nd place (84/66), Sam Kipp, 3rd (76/66) and Gary Haack, 4th (84/66). The card match between 3rd and 4th place went all the way to the 18th hole before a determination could be made, a first in my experience in the last 4 years. Congratulations to you all.

The men’s B Group (8 players) was competitive too. There was a 4-way tie for first place at net 68: Lowe, R. McKenna, Hart and Thomas. Garry Lowe (89/68) was determined to be the 1st low net by virtue of the same tie-breaker. Ron McKenna (98/68) was 2nd and Will Hart (92/68) took 3rd place.

For the four Ladies in the competition, Kuniko Takeuchi was low net at 71, and Jean Chong came in 2nd at net 74.

In the Closest to the Pin competition, Greg Fletcher and Will Hart were closest of the two men’s groups at #8 while at #17, Dave Springer and Glen Kinion were closest for the men and Marie Hart was the class of the women.

In the optional Net Skins game, 15 participants scored only 3 skins: Ron McKenna’s 2 at #10, Garry Lowe’s 2 at #14 and Jean Chong’s net ace at #17. Good shooting, all of you. By the way, if there had been a gross skins match between the same participants, there would have been four: Two by Eric Edgar at #4 and #15, Hart at #8 and Lowe again at #14.

Thanks to all of you for coming out. Our next tournament is scheduled for May 21st, first tee at 8:30 AM.
