BCGC Celebrates 15 Years in Style

The Morton Golf Team hosted the 15th Year Celebration with a 7am Scramble Golf Tournament on July 15th. The golf course was in great condition and the weather was perfect. The golf was followed by lunch and wine tasting by 4 local wineries. Kudos to Team Morton for a well run event.

l to r: Lou Edgar, Bart Cavanaugh Jr, John Cavanaugh and Eric Edgar

Bartley Cavanaugh's Son Bart Jr. and Grandson John were one hand watching outstanding play out on course.

The Team of Uncle Frank Giarmona, Dale Achondo Jr, and Dale's two son's won by shooting the lowest round with a 58 (-13). They were followed by former BCGC Club Champion Matt Valli and his team shooting a 59 (-12).

Dale Achondo - Former City of Sacramento Golf Director

Dale Achondo (Former Golf Director and Past BCGC President) spoke about the process in which the golf course became a reality. After Dale finished the Executive 9 Hole Course at Bing Maloney, Dale was charged to build another city golf course. The city discovered and purchased 90 acres in Freeport and proceeded to send out RFP's for golf course design services. Dale mentioned he was very excited when Perry Dye submitted a proposal and somehow know Perry was the right person for the project.

Perry Dye - Golf Course Architect

Perry Dye was also on hand and talked about the project. Perry was informed he had 90 acres to work with, but after his team surveyed the project, he actually had less ground to build on. At that time, Perry stated most courses being built were using approximately 150 acres. He wanted to prove that a challenging golf course could be built using less land. They imported tens of thousands of yards for dirt to build the mounds along the fairways, as this was all flat land just like the property to the south.

From an environmental stand point, Perry was pleased to see all the different types of water fowl and birds now on the course. The course has become home a large variety of wild life. He noted that over the last 15 years, he has brought several different clients to the Bartley Cavanaugh Golf course to view his work.

Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Club members also played in the tournament: Barbara Conerly, Marie Hart, Will Hart, Leon Taylor, Glen Kinion, Mark Edgar, Lou Edgar, Ron McKenna, Kim Volk, Bob Volk and Bob Benefiel.
