The Midweek June Skins Tournament was played under beautiful conditions, clear skies on a warm and calm day. Three threesomes competed in net skins with carry-overs inside their own group. Leon Taylor (79/65 net) made the most skins (11) in his group, while Bob Thomas (95/68 net, 9skins) and Will Hart (94/72 net, 8 skins) were tops in their respective groups. Dave Springer made 4 of the 9 total skins in the optional side game waged by four competitors.

With such a small group, there was only one flight for P.O.Y. points, all based on net scores as usual. Doug Swann came in first with a beautiful 79/64 net round. After a back-nine tiebreaker, Leon Taylor beat out Haruo Makimoto (82/65 net) for second place. Fourth went to Bob Thomas and fifth place in P.O.Y. points went to Roy Fukushima with a 94/69 net.

May 16, 2012 - Midweek Group - Individual Stroke

The Midweek Group dodged a weather bullet again as we experienced beautiful weather for our May tournament. Warm but not oppressive, slight breeze and dry humidity when some forecasters were saying to expect a high of 94.

Twenty-one members 15 men and a high of 6 ladies, thank you) came out for a medal play, individual net score competition. Trina Millett fired a beautiful 43-38-81, net 69, to win the women's flight, followed by Jeri Fong (70) and Barbara Conerly (74). Men's "A" Flight was won by Jim Coombs with a neat 46-39-85, net 67, trailed by a pair of 71's by Haruo Makimoto, and Myron Dahl. Haruo placed second by virtue of a "back nine" tie-breaker. In the Men's "B" Flight, Willard Hart out-classed the field shooting a beautiful 43-43-86, net 64. John Hawck continued his comeback scoring a nice round of 94, net 65 and Roy Fukushima (66), Don Sperling (66) and Mike McKenna (67) rounded out the prize winning positions, also using the same tie-breaker.

Closest to pin at #12 was Jim Coombs at 16'10" and also at #17 at 2'2". Congratulations to all of our winners and thanks to all for coming out to play. Our next tournament is June 20th starting at 8:03 AM. This will be a skins game played inside each foursome with carry-overs.

April 18, 2012 - Midweek Group - Individual Stroke Play

Bob Thomas - Mid Week Tournament Chair
Thanks to all of you for coming out April 18th. I think it was a beautiful day for golf; clear, warm skies with a gentle breeze and low humidity. The course was in good shape with dry fairways and slow but smooth and true rolling greens.

We had 3 ladies and 14 men competing in 3 flights with the following results: Barbara Conerly was low net in the women's flight with a 67; Dick Carlsen was the class in the men's A flight shooting a smooth 76, net 66 and John Hawck continued his quest toward "most improved" member shooting a net 60! Mike McKenna also turned in a sterling 88, net 62. Nice shooting John and Mike.  Dick Carlsen was closest to the pin on #8 at 7'5" while Leon Taylor (Welcome Back!) got it to 7'3" on #17.

In our optional Net Skins game, Carlsen, Coombs, Schutt and Taylor all had one skin, while Ron McKenna and Bob Thomas both had 2 each.

I have attached details for the tournament, optional skins game and P.O.Y rankings to this email for those interested. Our next Midweek Tournament will be held May 16th, first tee at 8:57 AM. This will be more of the same; individual net stroke play and optional skins game.
