This month, 24 members teed off in our Wednesday group's
7/17 tournament under cool, clear skies with a slight breeze. Starting at 7:30
during the summer, we all finished by 1 PM, playing net stroke play on a course
looking real good; not really showing any effects from the recent hot spell.
Speaking of hot, Glen Kinion shot a really nice 88, net 64, to take first place
honors in the Men's B flight. Bob Thomas and Will Hart
followed that with net 70 and 71, respectively.
In the Men's A flight, Dick
Carlsen shot a net 66 with his round of 75, which was also the low gross for
our group. Ray Alldritt, Jim Coombs and Greg Owyang filled out the rest of the
winning slots in Men's A, netting 66, 70 and 71, respectively. Greg needed a
back nine tie breaker to beat Haruo Makimoto who also netted 71.
In the Ladies
flight, Jean Chong edged out Barbara Conerly, via back nine tie-breaker to grab
first place. After Barbara, Marie Hart's net 73 took third by beating Shirley
Johnson's 73 with the tie-breaker.
In the Closest to Pin competition, at hole #
8, Ron Glick won for Men's A flight with a shot of 17'4".
Bob Thomas took the prize for Men's B group at 10'1"
and Jean Chong was looking good for the ladies (well, OK, for all of us)
getting it to 2'8". Good shooting all of you.
In the optional net skins game, there were only 4 skins
among the 9 contestants. Ray Alldritt on #6; Ron McKenna on #10; and Bob Thomas scored two, on #15 and #16. All of these skins were
net 2's.
Our next tournament is scheduled for August 14th, first tee at 7:27 AM. First
come, first served, for 28 positions. Let me know. The format will be the same
as this month. Hope to see you all there,
Bob Thomas

July 13, 2013 - Weekend Tournament Reults
Before I get into reporting the results of the BCGC Individual Net Weekend Tournament, I’d like to pass along kudos to the superintendent and maintenance staff of Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course. In my opinion, the greens at Bartley were in the best condition that I’ve ever seen. The greens were smooth and fast. Well-struck, full shots into the greens held. And chips shots bounced, checked, and ran-out true. Great job guys!
Speaking of smooth, three
golfers in particular played very smooth rounds on Saturday. Leading the pack was Bob Ruff who shot a
gross 81 (40-41) for a first place net 64!
The day wasn’t extremely hot, but Mr. Ruff and his closest competitors
sure were! Running a close second was
our Club President, Mark Edgar. Mark
posted gross nines of 39-37 (76) for a net 65!
Hot on Mark’s tail was Tim Ramirez with gross nines of 36-39 (75) for a
net 66! Fourth place went to George
"Wolf" Yanez, shooting a terrific 38 on the back nine for a gross 83, net 69.
Complete results are as
follows:
Gross Net
Bob Ruff 81 64Mark Edgar 76 65
Tim Ramirez 75 66
George Yanez 83 69 (4th place by match of cards – back nine net)

Our next tournament is
scheduled for Saturday, August 10.

well. Entry into the qualifier is
optional. Hope to see you on the 10th!
