Nov 14, 2012 - Midweek Group - Turkey Shoot

Thanks to all who came out for the Turkey Shoot, our last tournament of the year. We had good weather again; no rain, clear skies, mostly calm winds and temperatures from 62 at the start to 82 when we finished. The course condition was the best of the year with the effects of the dry summer being steadily erased. Thanks and kudos to Dylan and his staff for their hard work this year.

This was a Modified Stableford competition. Jean Chong won the Women's flight with 42 points (net 67), followed by Barbara Conerly's 34 points and Marie Hart with 32. Men's A Flight was won by Haruo Makimoto's 40 points (net 68) on the basis of a back nine tie-breaker with Myron Dahl (40 pts/68 net.) And Bob Thomas won the Men's B flight with 43 points and a net 67. Prizes were also awarded for closest to the pin on all 4 par three holes this time: Makimoto, 18'4" at #5; Carlsen, 20'10" at #8; Ron McKenna, 20'11" at #12 and Ron again, 16'7" at #17.

In the optional skins game, 7 participants scored 10 skins as follows: Makimoto 3 at #1, 2 and 5; Hawck had 3 at #8, 9 and 10; Thomas 2 at #6 and 18; Fukushima and Swann each had 1 at #3 and 14, respectively.

So, in the end, 12 members teed it up in three flights and only scored 7 birdies and 37 pars. The hardest hole for our group this time was #10 which averaged 5.83 strokes! It was a small turnout and even fewer stayed to find out the results, so I will bring any undistributed prizes (everyone won something) to the Christmas Party on December 5th for those of you attending. I still have prizes for Dahl, Hawck, Fukushima, Makimoto, Carlsen and Swann.

Finally, the Player of the Year points have been tabulated. One woman and one man have been determined to be runaway winners and will have their names engraved on the perpetual trophy displayed in the clubhouse foyer. In all, three women and seven men will be honored at the Christmas party as winners and runners-up. And as an added surprise, I will make a special award to the most improved player in our Midweek group. If you are unable to attend the party this year, I will be making an e-mail announcement shortly thereafter.

Once again, thanks to all of you who played.

Bob Thomas
