November 20, 2013 - Midweek Group Tournament Results

Well, I guess it had to happen. They say “into every life a little rain must fall” and that’s what happened to the Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Club’s Midweek Group at our 2013 Turkey Shoot. We had 29 members signed up for an event with great prizes for everyone and instead it rained all the previous day and through the night. Tournament day was overcast and misty and the course was open but “cart path only” was in effect. This of course is not doable for some of our group and the cold, damp weather promised to be no fun for others of us.

Fortunately, after a nice breakfast shared with 16 members, 12 decided to try our luck and were rewarded with pretty good conditions for 18 holes. I didn’t even need the extra towel I brought to keep the seat in the cart dry!

The McKenna Brothers (Mike & Ron)
The format for this tournament was a Stableford Points game. In the Men’s B Flight, Mike McKenna turned in the performance of the day firing his all-time best BCGC round of 91, net 67 and scoring 32 points to come in fist place. It was fun to watch with two net eagles! Bob Thomas and Ron McKenna took second and third place honors with 22 and 16 points, respectively.

In the Men’s A Flight, Dave Schutt came out with the win shooting a beautiful 83, net 67 scoring 30 Stableford points. Haruo Makimoto came in second with 26 points (85, net 68) and Jim Coombs was third with 25 points (88, net 69). And in the Women’s Flight, Joyce Makimoto and Kuniko Takeuchi tied with 14 points each.

There was a "Closest to Pin" competition held at hole #’s 5 and 17. At #5, Mike McKenna (39’-8”) and Dave Springer (11’-7”) took the honors for their respective flights. At #17, Bob Thomas (23’-9”) and Jim Coombs (12’-6”) won their flights.

We also had an optional skins game with 7 golfers scoring 6 net skins: Mike McKenna’s eagle 2’s at #9 and #16; and birdies by Haruo Makimoto at #1, Dave Springer at #6, Thomas at #10 and Dave Shutt at #13. Good shooting all of you on a cold, dreary day made fun by golfing with friends.
