June 19, 2013 - Midweek Group Tournament Results

This month we experimented with an earlier starting time for summer of 7:30 and it seemed to work well. All five foursomes finished by noon as the temperature rose from 60* to 85*. The skies were clear with only a slight breeze blowing just enough to keep us cool. The course is in fine shape with Morton Golf watering heavily at night and paying special attention to dry-spot locations from past years.

The game this month was a two-man team, best-ball net stroke play tournament. Coming in first place was the team of Jean Chong and Pat Mar with a nifty 89, net 61 round. Second place was secured (as determined by a card match of the last 6 holes)by Jim Coombs and Leon Taylor with a 77, net 62. John Hillerman and Dave Travis earned 3rd place honors also shooting 77, net 62. Finishing out of the money, but getting fifth place P.O.Y. points was the team of Bob Thomas and Dave Springer.

In the optional net skins game, 7 participants scored 11 skins as follows: Roy Fukushima, 2 at #’s 1 & 6; Bob Thomas, 2 at #’s 3 & 17, Haruo Makimoto at #9; John Hillerman, 3 at #’s 10,12 & 15; Dave Travis 2 at #’s 13 & 14; and Dave Springer at # 18.

In the closest to pin competition:
Kuniko Takeuchi won for the ladies with 16’-4” followed by Barbara Conerly at 27’-2”.
For the men, John Hawck led the way at11’-1”, just ahead of Leon Taylor’s 12’-5”.

Congratulations to all of our winners; thanks for playing. And thanks, too, to first time midweekers Alldritt, Hillerman, and Owyang. Welcome!!

Our next tournament, flighted individual stroke play, will be on July 17th, first tee time at 7:00AM as more hot weather is forecast. Hope to see you all there.
