Feb. 15, 2012 Midweek Group - Member-Guest

Thanks to all of the 19 hardy souls who braved the cold, WINDY weather and played in the first Midweek tournament of the year, February 15th. Winds were forcast out of the north at 25 mph and I believe they were generally all of that! Those of us who were able to keep the ball down had a better chance of keeping it as straight as possible.

The temperatures ranged from the low 50's to the low 60's during the tournament and the course was in good shape under Morton Golf's Maintenance.  New mowers were in use, taming the rough somewhat, the cattails had been cut way back, the pond waters sparkled clear, and even a greeter and a marshal were on hand to speed things along.

Two long-time members who were partnered together (by your intrepid tournament chairman) mastered the conditions and taught us all a lesson. John Hawck and Don Sperling "ham-and-egged" it to an awe-inspiring net best-ball team score of 29-24/53! Sperling's individual net of 61 was the best of the day (his best in a few years) and Hawck's 63 was second low of the day. Congratulations to you both; nice shooting under difficult conditions.

The teams of Glen Kinion/Mike McKenna, Haruo Makimoto/Lance Clark, Dave & Bryan Springer and Kent Flewellyn/Alan Oshima took 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th place, repectively. And, as if he wasn't already happy enough,  Don Sperling was closest to the pin on #17, at 2ft-6in, resulting in a birdie two, net zero!

The next midweek tournament is set for March 21st, first tee at 9:00 am.  The format will be Bingo-Bango-Bongo with each players gross score  reportable for handicap purposes. Hope to see you all there.
